About Village-relais towns and villages

A Village-relais is a municipality of less than 10,000 residents that is recognized by the Quebec Ministry of Transport that offers essential roadside services as well as a safe and attractive place to stop. Through local businesses it offers both a variety of services as well as distinctive tourist attractions.

A traveler may require services such as gas, food or simply a stop for a breath of fresh air. In addition to this and other services, the Village-relais municipality offers a range of unique tourist attractions including natural and heritage activities. The village provides these in a unique setting. After making a brief stop in a Village-relais, the traveler may even discover a place where they want to extend their stay!

Village-relais municipalities are situated along major roads and tourist routes all over Quebec. Each one offers a charming place that is waiting to be discovered! The Village-relais designation is given for a 5-year period. Each municipality is re-evaluated at the end of the 5-year term before being having its designation renewed.

The Village-relais program was put into place to make roads safer by creating inviting rest stops that encourage drivers to make more frequent stops therefore reducing driver fatigue.
