As part of the 15th anniversary of the Fédération des Villages-relais du Québec, we sat down with Ms. Sylvie Blanchette, Mayor of Amqui, to reflect on the journey since the city joined the network.

With a population of nearly 6,200 residents, the city of Amqui is a fine example of what a Village-relais represents: a proud community capable of seizing opportunities. Nestled in the Matapédia Valley, Amqui benefits from a strategic location that allows it to take full advantage of its accreditation. While awareness efforts are still needed for residents to fully grasp the concept, Ms. Blanchette appreciates the many benefits that come with being part of the network.

"We now have electric bicycle charging stations. It's an addition that encourages visitors to explore the downtown area and support local businesses," says Ms. Blanchette.

Ms. Blanchette believes, however, that it is crucial to take the time to showcase these projects. The Prix Inspiration awards are an excellent way to bring these initiatives into the spotlight. The city of Amqui has earned several distinctions, including one recognizing the restoration of the J. Napoléon Perrusse footbridge in 2022.

"That is something that makes everyone very proud, because it is recognized at the provincial level. We heard about it on many occasions, including from residents, who were thrilled to see their city featured in the news," shares Ms. Blanchette.

Ms. Sylvie Blanchette has served on the board of directors of the Fédération des Villages-relais since 2018. When she joined the board, she embraced her role with great pride.

"Seeing all the wonderful things that emerge from this collaboration among municipalities from across Québec makes me very proud to be part of the team," concludes Ms. Blanchette.

Thank you, Ms. Blanchette, for your involvement in the Villages-relais network. May your story inspire municipal partners to continue fostering the development of our regions. For more information about the Villages-relais network, visit villages-relais.qc.ca!
