A great initiative by the City of Pohénégamook

Sept. 16, 2025

In order to remain attractive for young families looking to settle in regional communities, it is crucial that municipalities be able to maintain a variety of essential services; including daycare centres and childcare services.

It is with this goal in mind that the City of Pohénégamook will be launching its very first community-based childcare service!

This new service, designed for young families, will be housed at the Centre des loisirs Guy-Pelletier and is expected to be ready by the end of September. The renovation costs, estimated at approximately $116,500, have been funded by the City of Pohénégamook's Wind Energy and Development Fund, thereby limiting the use of public funds.

It is worth noting that this new community-based childcare model is part of a pilot project overseen by the ministère de la Famille du Québec. This initiative aims to preserve the key benefits of home-based childcare, while offering a complementary approaches to those already available within the early childhood education and care network.

Congratulations to the City of Pohénégamook for yet another inspiring initiative for the entire network!
