First and foremost, it's worth noting that July 1st — the classic moving day for many Quebecers — is one of the busiest travel days of the year. Extra caution is therefore essential on this hectic and emotionally charged day. Here are three key recommendations for safe driving:

  1. Balance your load properly — Regardless of the size of your load, it's important that the weight be evenly distributed in your vehicle or trailer. An uneven distribution can cause premature wear on your vehicle or lead to issues during transport (poor road grip, braking problems, etc.);
  2. Keep a safe following distance — It is especially critical to allow for a greater braking distance than usual when carrying a heavy load, as your vehicle will need to manage additional weight when stopping. Don't hesitate to reduce your speed and keep an eye on the drivers around you;
  3. Use the safety corridor — You may see people pulled over on the side of the road to check their trailer load. Be sure to give them extra space by moving over and slowing down as you pass.

We also recommend consulting resources to help plan your trip, especially if you have a long distance to cover. Among the most useful are Québec 511 and various route-planning apps. Our complete list of Villages-relais is also an excellent resource for locating full-service rest stops along your route. Happy moving!
