Located between the fresh water of the fjord and the salt water of the river, the Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park is a protected marine area spanning 1,245 km² in the St. Lawrence Estuary and the Saguenay River. Nearly 2,200 species inhabit these waters, including at-risk species such as the beluga whale, the blue whale and the Barrow's goldeneye.
